True Story Memoir: How Can You Help Others Share?

I believe true life stories have power. I want our stories to reach out to others who have had experiences much like ours. If we share, our journey can breathe life into the lives of those it is meant for. I believe that what has touched us will be a match with what touches someone else. It’s not about telling a story filled with powerful, famous wealthy people living lives of thrilling excitement.  It’s about digging deep into the depths of our people, places and experiences to give our life story integrity. Pomp and circumstance is not necessary. All we need to do is commit to telling our story with deep honesty, transparency and truth. This is how we will connect our life to readers who will want to connect with us. Then we will have unleashed the true power of our story: the power to touch, change and enrich lives with our life.

If you want to make sales and become a famous book author you may, or may not, have success at doing so. Only a limited number of memoir writers climb the ladder of success to the point of infamy. On the other hand, if your motivation is to simply offer your story as a source of hope to others, then your chances at achieving your goal improves exponentially. Writing with integrity allows you to consider the deeper meanings behind the seemingly concrete experiences, objects and individuals of your life. This integrity also allows you to transform your memoir into a powerful, life changing and hope restoring story.
I believe we need God as our guide to share our story well. It is difficult to predict the ideal way to share our lives and equally difficult to predict who will be impacted by our stories. Only God knows where our journeys are taking us. He knows the plans and purposes for our lives. When we share it is best to follow the path that God lays before us. This will likely be a path of instincts and intuitions: we will have to listen for His quiet voice. We should not expect to know where we might arrive. Instead, we need to listen and let God lead, and trust that He has a special destination for our stories.
Please help make this blog a place where people can get excited about their story’s destination. Advice, suggestions, approaches and directions can become the fuel someone needs to choose to share. Journey on Canvas Blog is a great place to open up venues that will help others share. What different suggestions do you have to offer the memoir writer? What approach has worked for you as you have shared your story? Is there a particular direction that you recommend the story teller to consider? We’d like to know your secrets so that we can learn to share from you!

Take Apart 2,
Age 45

I am in the throes of taking apart my old art: the art that doesn't please me in its entirety. I love pieces of these pieces though, so I start to use them. I make some new work that is not entirely new. I make something better from something not quite right. It is satisfying.

Old Junk
Age 42

I’m gonna pull that Old Junk out of my head. I’m not going to give it a chance to play its old song of doubt, fear and sadness. Instead, I’m going to believe something new, write a new song and let that new tape play. Old tape out, new tape in!
