Has a conversation with a friend ever revealed intimate details regarding their daily struggles? In such an exchange come likely discoveries. Firstly, you might find that your life has the same, or similar, challenges. Secondly, it’s likely that you would offer your friend comfort by telling them of a time that you felt just the same way. You might be surprised to see your friend’s eyes fill with tears as a hug of genuine thanks is given you. The power in this chain of interactions is in the stories that were shared. Maybe the individuals don’t document the words spoken, but hope is given and the power is still the same. It’s the power of sharing stories.

Consider the conversation between friends. A person has shared, common experience has been found, physical and emotional comfort has been offered and love has been freely given. The power in this exchange is not unspiritual. Regardless of our education, title, knowledge or experience we are spiritual beings who are having a spiritual experience. Greater power is released when we free ourselves to share our stories without reservation, with confidence and in the knowledge that God is present in the simplest moments of our lives.
You have the power. You have the power of spiritual memoir. Now you just need to free yourself to share it. You might decide to keep on offering your story at the water cooler, on the checkout line, over coffee and in the company of close friends. People who offer their lives to others, through loving exchanges of encouragement and grace, release the power. Some may want to learn more about spiritual autobiography by reading and learning about those who have chosen to document their journey. Learning about how God has been present in the lives of others sets the power free. Writing about your story in a journal, keeping a scrapbook for your family, or making a piece of art about an experience makes you a powerful storyteller. Maybe you’ll write and publish your spiritual memoir or you’ll just come to more clearly recognize God’s presence in your life and the lives of others . Either way you have a powerful story to share and you can decide to share it. Tell your story and release the power of spiritual memoir.
Release the power today. Make this blog a place to start sharing your story. Tell us your story and don’t be afraid. You’ll encourage all of us and the power of your life just might change ours.

Tears for Dancing, Age 42

The older I get the less I think about what I can get out of this life. Bad things happen here on Earth and no one is immune. I see my parents suffering, I watch terrible things happen to my friends and I see catastrophic events that create hell on Earth. Revelation 21:4 promises that someday God will wipe every tear from our eyes and the old order of things will pass away. I’m beginning to think that this promise isn’t so far away: it’s just waiting for us at the next stop. Maybe when we die we trade our tears for dancing and enter Heaven. Until then, I'm going to paint, I'm going to write, and I'm going to share when I find hope in this life. That's why I'm here at Journey on Canvas.
