Finding Balance On Our Journey

This month's message series at my church is all about balance: something I really could use right now. Everything takes so much time. Even the good, fulfilling and healthy things fill up space on my daily calendar. Some days it seems like there isn't enough time to just do what must be done. Does anyone else out there feel that way?

Right now I'm making a list of daily tasks and I'm going to try to commit to them. Whatever else doesn't make the list I might need to learn to let go of at the end of each day. I think what I really need to do is review my task list with God every morning and evening. Maybe my question should be, "Lord what do you think I should do today?" Really, nothing else should matter to me. I have to admit, though, that I don't have such great self control: I'll forget to review that list or I'll deviate from it on my weak days. I'll try to fill my day with all kinds of stuff, and I'll regret my busy, hectic, meaningless day when the day is done.

If you're reading this would you please pray for me? Pray that I can stick to the plan: God's plan. And, let me know if you'd like me to pray for you. Let me know what occupies your day. Share what you struggle with. I'd like to know I'm not alone. I'd also like to help if I can.

Tears for Dancing, Age 42

The older I get the less I think about what I can get out of this life. Bad things happen here on Earth and no one is immune. I see my parents suffering, I watch terrible things happen to my friends and I see catastrophic events that create hell on Earth. Revelation 21:4 promises that someday God will wipe every tear from our eyes and the old order of things will pass away. I’m beginning to think that this promise isn’t so far away: it’s just waiting for us at the next stop. Maybe when we die we trade our tears for dancing and enter Heaven. Until then, I'm going to paint, I'm going to write, and I'm going to share when I find hope in this life. That's why I'm here at Journey on Canvas.
