My story is inside my art: literally and figuratively. I wrote my spiritual autobiography 8 years ago. Today, I ripped up the pages of my story and added its words and illustrations to my canvas. A simple vase of flowers is transformed into a metaphor for my mother’s passion and creativity. How amazing she was at decorating a space and transforming it. She has passed a baton to me and I have grabbed it. I pass her creative energy onto others when I create and then share. My past, my passions, my spirituality, and my present are all rolled into one piece of art. When I share, I pass that baton and my story reaches out to others. If someone is inspired to share too, it’s like ripples from a stone tossed in a pond: out, out, and out yet again.

Consider that you can make a ripple. Share your story today.

tears for dancing

Tears for Dancing, Age 42

The older I get the less I think about what I can get out of this life. Bad things happen here on Earth and no one is immune. I see my parents suffering, I watch terrible things happen to my friends and I see catastrophic events that create hell on Earth. Revelation 21:4 promises that someday God will wipe every tear from our eyes and the old order of things will pass away. I’m beginning to think that this promise isn’t so far away: it’s just waiting for us at the next stop. Maybe when we die we trade our tears for dancing and enter Heaven. Until then, I'm going to paint, I'm going to write, and I'm going to share when I find hope in this life. That's why I'm here at Journey on Canvas.
