We are all on a journey. One day things are on an upswing. The next day we spiral down because of bad news or simply a bad day. Our natural inclination is to share when we’re up and recoil when we’re down. We don’t realize that when things in our lives begin to fall apart that we can do something brand new: share at the bottom of it all. Van Gogh painted sunflowers. I'm no Van Gogh but I'm inspired by sunflowers too. You can paint them in a million different ways: interpret them however you'd like. They give you permission to do something brand new. My painting (below) lets sunflowers grow in the middle of a bedroom. There is no pot to hold them. They magically grow out from the floor. I am more interested in how I feel about this space than I am interested in describing it accurately. This was a time when I was down, and I felt safety and comfort in my surroundings. Today, I try to use that space to pass that feeling on. Share today. Do it here and Journey on Canvas Blog, or do it elsewhere. Use what’s happening today to encourage others. Do it despite your circumstances. Trust that God can change a life through your story.

tears for dancing

Tears for Dancing, Age 42

The older I get the less I think about what I can get out of this life. Bad things happen here on Earth and no one is immune. I see my parents suffering, I watch terrible things happen to my friends and I see catastrophic events that create hell on Earth. Revelation 21:4 promises that someday God will wipe every tear from our eyes and the old order of things will pass away. I’m beginning to think that this promise isn’t so far away: it’s just waiting for us at the next stop. Maybe when we die we trade our tears for dancing and enter Heaven. Until then, I'm going to paint, I'm going to write, and I'm going to share when I find hope in this life. That's why I'm here at Journey on Canvas.
